Howdy folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I’m on my morning walk.
I’ve been getting a bunch of questions about macular problems, including macular holes, which is a very serious condition. You need to work closely with your eye doctor. I would get a lot of imaging work done to find out exactly what is going on in your macula.
A macular hole is a deterioration of the structure of the macula and it creates a bit of an indentation. The normal approach to addressing a macular hole is doing a vitrectomy surgery, where they try to reattach the vitreous to the retina – especially where the macula is. It’s a pretty involved surgery.
So what should be considered from a holistic perspective? Well, the macular needs a lot of oxygenation and hydration. Eye-healthy nutrients like lutein and zeaxanthin can address oxidative stress in the area. Eye exercises and color therapy may also be something to consider, but I would talk to your eye doctor about it because it is a very serious condition.
So that’s my message for today. Take good care.
