Good morning folks! It’s Dr. Sam and I’m way back in the Santa Fe National Forest on my morning cross-country ski. I want to address a question I got this morning on Facebook about turmeric’s role in eye health.
The ingredient in turmeric called curcumin. This is a goldish spice that’s been found to have great healing properties for reducing inflammation and improving our eye health. It has loads of antioxidants, such as vitamin C and vitamin E.
There was a study that came out at the University of California San Diego a group of ophthalmologists proved, without a shadow of a doubt, that turmeric is a wonderful ingredient for supporting eye health. If you’re suffering from oxidative stress or free radical damage, supplementing with curcumin is one of best things you can do. Its also been shown to be effective for conditions like conjunctivitis, keratitis, uveitis, cataracts, floaters, and retinopathies like macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and even glaucoma.
To conclude, curcumin is one my go-tos for reducing the inflammatory response in the eyes and body. It’s great to include in your daily smoothie. Cut up some turmeric root and include ginger root, kale, cucumbers, celery, and perhaps some mocha powder, blueberries, and grapefruits.
So in terms of curcumin, it is one of my gotos in terms of reducing the inflammatory response in the eyes and in the body. And in case you’re looking for more ways to incorporate it into your diet, try a smoothie! It’s a great way to get nutrients into your eyes in the morning and tastes excellent with ginger root, cucumber, celery, kale, mocha powder, blueberries, and grapefruit. Now one of the best sources of curcumin is in your daily smoothie formula.
