Smart Contact Lenses – Seeing into the Future

January 17, 2019 - Eye Health

Hi folks, this is Dr. Sam.

I want to talk to you today about smart contact lenses. This is a new discovery that a group of South Korean researchers have published in Applied Science and Engineering.

They created a very tiny electronic sensor that they put on contact lenses that measure biomarkers from tears. So for example, it can tell us things like our fasting glucose levels and our cholesterol levels.

Research like this is exciting because it’s very non-invasive and another drop in the bucket in terms of using our eyes as a marker for our metabolic and systemic health.
