Hey, good morning, everybody. It’s Dr. Sam and I received a question from Miguel, on farsightedness. And what can you do about it, I’ve been getting a lot of questions like this. So let me break it down this way. When you turn 40, or 45, you start losing your focusing flexibility. And it’s less about age. And it’s more about your two eyes not working together, you’re under a lot of visual stress, you may have some depletion on a biochemical level. But here’s the rub. When you start needing magnification glasses, they have the side effects of paralyzing and reducing the resiliency in your focusing muscles. You may experience that when you start wearing the magnifiers, you become dependent on them. And in fact, you start needing stronger and stronger magnification lenses every six months. So I want to map out a strategy for you. And this should apply to everybody.

So here we go. Number one is that it’s better off for you to get the minimum magnification lens for your reading at about 14 inches. And you can do this by going to the drugstore and taking your book with you, or your phone and trying on different plus lenses and you’re going for the weakest prescription that gives you clarity and ease. So let’s say, for example, you discover that a plus 1.5 o is allowing you now to read the print. So you could use that when you’re reading. However, you don’t want to be using that for your computer, you would want to get something less because the computer is farther away. It’s 20 or 22 inches. One of the mistakes that people make is they start using their reading glasses for the computer that’s going to accelerate your eyes getting worse and worse. Now another factor involved in our screen time is that with the Kindle with the phone, and even with the computer, you can expand the size of the font and therefore you can even reduce the magnification lens even more.

So that kind of helps you in the lens prescription area I would stay away from bifocals progressive lenses. Make sure to take your glasses off if you’re looking out across the room because that is the fastest way that your eyes are going to deteriorate where then you’re going to start having blurred vision in the distance.
