Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I want to pose a question to you today. Do you think retinal circulation has an effect on your problem solving cognitive processing and memory?
There was a study that was just published and the American Academy of Neurology researchers asked this very question. This was a 20 year study with men and women between the ages of 50 to 73 and there were over 12,000 subjects. Researchers compared people who had no retinal vascular problems with people diagnosed with moderate to severe retinal vascular problems. They found that those people who were diagnosed with retinal vascular issues had a much more accelerated decline in their cognitive processing abilities than people who had no retinal vascular problems.
So let me tell you a story about a patient. A few months ago I had a 72-year-old engineer come to see me who had just suffered a stroke and he lost the peripheral vision in his right eye. I gave him some prism glasses. These are therapeutic glasses that actually move the spatial awareness into his right visual field. And within ten minutes he started to improve his peripheral vision on the right side of his visual field. Over the month I gave him physical therapy for his eyes called vision therapy and that can buy combined with the therapeutic prisms. After the month he was able to get his day light driver’s license back. He also improved his long-term memory, short-term memory, cognitive processing, and he improved his depth perception and his focus.
I also included in the protocol 2000 milligrams a day of omega 3 fish oil, lutein, zeaxanthin, beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin D, Bilberry, Quercetin, Taurine, magnesium, chromium, and selenium. I also included a probiotic. Over that month he was able to improve his visual information processing.
I was really glad to see this study published because there definitely is a correlation between our retinal circulation and our cognitive processing. And there are things that you can do to improve your vision!
So thanks so much for tuning in. I really appreciate it. And until next time take good care.
