Hello, everyone, its Dr. Sam, I’d like to welcome you to my EyeClarity  podcast. This is a show that offers cutting edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to hello@drsamberne.com. Now to the latest EyeClarity episode. The progressive lenses are basically going to tunnel your your vision, I mean, that’s you’re looking through a small compartment. And that’s going to strain your eyes and strain us. If I’m here, if, if I heard you say, Oh, I wear the computer glasses, you know, I’m still school straining and squinting, I’m not seeing the the digits on my spreadsheet clear enough, then I would consider giving you the astigmatism. But when you stop wearing the astigmatism, the eye tends to revert back to its organic shape of being round. vantage of that is that there’s less overall accumulated tension radical around LASIK surgery because there’s a mental component to how your prescription develops, like it just doesn’t develop because you turn a certain age. And it doesn’t just develop based on your genetics. But it develops based on what your mental setup is around your high balls. And with farsighted ness, which is what you you’ve got, there’s a loss of ability of being able to focus with the muscles. That’s why you need the magnification. And once you start wearing the magnification, the muscles become even weaker in the eyes. And then you get to a point where the muscles just get stuck. Because you the magnification makes things bigger. And when you do the LASIK surgery, you’re just changing the shape of the very front of the eye. The problem comes in because you change the shape of the eye but you still have the mental programming that caused the farsightedness to begin with. So now you’ve got two things to manage. You’ve got the the mental, which has caused the situation. But then you have this band aid that you’ve put over the eye with the surgery that says well I know I’m not really that way anymore. And over time, the mental is stronger than the surgery, the LASIK and so that’s why with a lot of people over time, they lose the benefits of the surgery. Now some other side effects of getting that surgery is there’s a tendency to have difficulty with dry, dry eye because you’re messing with the cornea. Already. You already have that. And then on top of that night vision usually gets very distorted with some bursts or light bursts from the headlights. So initially on that, yeah, really bad initially. Initially, the LASIK works, okay, you’re still going to need reading glasses unless they split one eye for distance one eye for near, which is a real nightmare. Because now your brain ignores one of the eyes to focus on the other eye. So is you if you as you as a candidate, I would say that’s a road I don’t think you should go down. Now, the other option which requires some daily or every other day, visual hygiene through an exercise, but now you’re entering into a process that’s gonna take some time to change the current prescription. It’s not an overnight success. So what you have to what you have To decide, in your heart of hearts, do you have it in you energy resources to say, yeah, you know, it’s like somebody saying, Okay, I’m ready to go on the South Beach diet,

05:15

I’m ready to do ketogenic I’m ready to do a fast, I’m ready to start doing daily yoga, are you ready to, I mean, truly ready to say, all right, give me an exercise, I’ll do it every day, you know, a little bit between patients and between my clients, the principle that I discovered, I had some really good teachers when I was just starting out. And they were masters that using glasses, prescriptions to improve people’s eyesight. So I learned it from them. And the concept is that in a completely non demanding situation, so you’ve got to do this, where there’s no visual demand on you, you’re obviously not going to wear these, when you’re trying to balance my checkbook, I will get mad. And I would be, you would be frustrated. Okay, so this needs to be done completely away from any visual demand. Because part of what the exercise is about for you, is understanding your mental relationship to blurry vision, your mental relation, not your physical, your mental. So I can tell you that most people don’t like blur, they get frustrated, then they blur blur to them means like, Oh, I’m going to make a mistake, or I could get injured, or whatever. And so this starts them down the road where mentally they put all their hyper vigilance into their eye muscles to keep things clear. But it’s that hyper vigilant attitude that wears their eye muscles out. And so this is the exercise and I’ll send you a video on it, I’ve done a number of videos on it. So you were you were a positive lens, a magnifying lens. So the lens I would send you is actually a near sighted lens. So that’s for near sighted. And what you’re going to do, what you’re going to do is you’re going to wear a patch, over your left eye, you take your glasses off, no glasses, and you look out into the to the room, and you get a kind of a subjective measurement on your depth of blur. Wow, it’s blurry. And then you take an opposite lens prescriptions and you put it on over the right eye. And immediately, the level of blur is like being on steroids. And this is where you have a little self reflection. Yeah. And your self reflection is observing your mental reaction. And I bet your mental reaction is I don’t like this, would you would you agree? You’re going to spend the next minute accepting, embracing and going into the blur. Okay. And then you’re going to take the glasses off, and you’re going to get a second measurement of that right eye. And it’s gonna surprise the hell out of you. Because you’re gonna go Yeah, things are clear now.

08:45

And realize you’re gonna do it three times. So, minute on, off minute on, you’re going to realize that you’re going to stop mentally trying to control the world, through your eye muscles. And you’re just going to relax into that blur. And then you take the patch off, and you’re going to look around and go, you know, this is pretty bright and clear. I’m surprised. So the, the principle is the way you get better eyesight clarity, is by relaxing into your blur. And then you do the other super interesting. You know, it’s um, it’s an exercise principle, they use it in fitness, where they stress the body. And by stressing the body, the body gets stronger. And the term is called hormesis, h o r e m e si s. And it’s a technique in the fitness world where they stress you, but it ultimately builds more muscle mass and more strength and endurance. So, by doing it on the eye by stressing the eye by having you wear this crazy opposite lens prescription, you are stressing the eye to regain some of its endurance and resiliency of the muscles, about the muscles. Right, okay. And it’s what the mental tells the muscle. If the mental is telling the muscles Well, let me go into this, let me relax into it. Instead of, oh, I’ve got to do everything I can to have I hate blur. You know, when you wake up in the morning, and your first thought is, I hate blur. Your poor eyes. Instead of during this exercise time, you’re stressing the muscles so that they have more resiliency and flexibility. If you do this exercise for a few weeks, you’ll wake up in the morning, and you won’t be reaching for your glasses right away. And you may even be able to do some driving without the glasses without your regular glasses if it’s daylight and you know where you’re going. And eventually, you might actually even be able to pick up a book and in good light.
