October 4, 2018 - Macular Degeneration
Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I want to talk to you today about macular degeneration. I read a statistic recently which said that 1/3 people may develop macular degeneration in their lifetime. And without a doubt, many of these instances could be prevented through diet and lifestyle.
Now, science has associated macular degeneration with systemic inflammation, which we know is increased or decreased due to the foods we eat. One culprit, which many of us consume far too much of, is the omega-6 fatty acids. This includes things like canola oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, and other processed foods like potato chips, crackers, and french fries. These are all highly inflammatory, so stay away from those and boost omega-3 consumption, which it’s been estimated that 90% of Americans are deficient in.
