June 15, 2018 - Eye Health
Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I’m on a great walk today.
I wanted to continue my conversation about the lymph system and eye health. (Watch Part 1 here)
Today’s conversation is centered on the relationship between the lymphatic system and the conjunctiva, which is the inner lining of the eyelid. So the lymph system is the drainage system for our body and plays a critical role in keeping the conjunctiva healthy. As you may have guessed, the eyes need a really robust drainage system to stay healthy, because if toxicities build-up in the eye, it creates oxidative stress. This opens the door for serious eye conditions like macular degeneration, cataracts, and glaucoma. Other conditions associated with the conjunctiva include conjunctivitis (pink eye) and blepharitis. So with a healthy lymph system, the eyes will have better circulation, which is essential for preventing free radical damage, reducing inflammation, and preventing infections and eye disease.
2 Ways to Boost Lymphatic System Health
- My three go-to herbs for the lymph system include ginger, garlic, and turmeric. As I’ve explained in other videos, research studies highlight the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric. I would also look at coriander and cinnamon as salubrious herbs.
- Consume green leafy vegetables like kale, spinach, brussels sprouts, and broccoli. Also look for brightly colored fruits, like melons, berries, and citrus fruits. These contain nutrients and antioxidants that are essential in the flushing of toxicities out of the body.
So there’s no question that if you can improve your lymphatic health, you’re going to reduce inflammation.
That’s my message for today I want to thank you so much for tuning in. And until next time take good care.
