May 3, 2019 - Cataracts
Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam. I received the question today: Is there a link between hypertension and cataracts?
In 2014 there was a study published in Public Library Science. Researchers did a meta-analysis. They took a look at 25 studies, and these were folks that were diagnosed with hypertension. They were looking to see if they develop cataracts. The results clearly showed that if you have hypertension you have a higher risk of developing cataracts.
Natural Treatments
Some of the things that you can do to reduce hypertension would be to make some lifestyle changes, like:
- Reduce obesity.
- Quit smoking.
- Reduce or eliminate caffeine.
- Eat a plant based diet.
- Do mindfulness activities to reduce stress.
The bottom line is that if you’ve been developing cataracts to check out to see whether you have hypertension. This could be another way for you to improve your lens health.
