Glaucoma Associated with Alzheimer’s

October 4, 2018 - Glaucoma

Hey folks, it’s Sam and I’m on my morning walk. I wanted to share a research study was published in the Frontiers of Neuroscience.

Researchers took a group of Alzheimer’s patients and they did a lot of eye exam tests on them. They found that there was a statistically significant percentage of them had a higher likelihood of glaucoma.

Glaucoma is a neurodegenerative disease that can cause blindness. It affects our optic nerve and our visual fields. So what researchers are saying is that people who are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s should get a comprehensive eye exam regularly that includes glaucoma screening, because there may be an association between glaucoma and Alzheimer’s disease.

Perhaps even more importantly, it supports the notion that our eye health and brain health are intricately connected and may be improved, or made worse, through the dietary and lifestyle choices we make each day.
