June 19, 2018 - Eye Health
Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam.
I want to talk to you today about obesity and detoxification. Recently I read a study that estimated that about 160 million Americans are overweight – this is about 60 percent of the population in the United States. I’m blown away by that statistic.
The CDC came out with a study and they said that everybody they tested that was overweight had some level of toxicity in their body. So there’s a correlation between toxicity in the body and being overweight. Part of it has to do with our cellular metabolism and our inability to get rid of toxicities that accumulate. These may include environmental toxicities or toxicities from pharmaceutical drugs – there are many different ways toxins may be introduced into our bodies. And when our cellular metabolism is interfered with, our ability to maintain a balanced weight may be inhibited.
So in terms of getting rid of toxins from the body, there are four main ways that I like to take a look at this. 1) We pee, 2) We poop, 3) We sweat, and 4) we can do breathing exercises. Now on my website I have a couple of breathing practices that actually can increase our oxygenation and it changes our blood chemistry. This will allow us to push toxins out of the body.
Now, I’ve spoken before about the importance of glutathione – it’s the master antioxidant. While I normally speak about glutathione in terms of eye health, it actually plays a powerful role within the entire body. Higher glutathione levels are associated with healthier weight and cellular metabolism. So in terms of addressing obesity, detoxing the body with powerful antioxidants like glutathione may be a good choice.
I want to thank you so much for tuning in. And until next time take good care.
