How to Boost Glutathione Levels Naturally

January 16, 2018 - Nutrition

Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I want to talk to you today about how to get more glutathione into your body.

What is glutathione?

Glutathione is made up of three amino acids – glycine, glutamine, and cysteine. Together these create a peptide which produces a very powerful antioxidant which is great for your heart, immune system, endurance, and is a wonderful detoxifier. I would also add that it is very good for your eye health.

How to Get More Glutathione into Your Body

There are a few ways to boost glutathione levels in your body.

  1. Intramuscular injections: This works well for people that are getting chemotherapy. It can help reduce some of the symptoms and side effects.
  2. I.V.: This works well for people with anemia or neurodegenerative conditions, like Parkinson’s. I’ve even used it with patients who have wet macular degeneration.
  3. Inhalation: This works well with people who have a respiratory disease or lung problems.
  4. Sublingual spray: This works well across the board. You do want to make sure that you are purchasing a  highly bioavailable and absorbable glutathione supplement so that it can enter your bloodstream effectively.

Certain foods also help the absorption and production of glutathione levels.

  1. Sulfur-rich foods. This would be the cruciferous vegetables. Sulfur-rich foods enhance and optimize glutathione in the body.
  2. Methylation nutrients: This would be the vitamin B6, B9, and B12. Foods that include these nutrients include garbanzo beans, lentils, asparagus, and avocados.
  3. Selenium: This is one of my go-to antioxidants. It helps in the product of glutathione. I get my selenium from Brazil Nuts, yellow tuna, and grass-fed beef.
