Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

March 7, 2018 - Nutrition

Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I want to talk to you today about the benefits of apple cider vinegar. This is a fantastic fermented food that boosts your microbiome.

Some of the benefits include balancing out your blood sugar levels. Now there have been studies that show that people that have difficulty metabolizing carbohydrates and sugars have a higher risk of developing cataracts and retinopathies like diabetic retinopathy. So Apple Cider Vinegar is a great one for helping to neutralize blood sugar levels. In fact, there was a study that was published in The Journal of Clinical Nutrition where subjects ate white bread and even while eating that bread the apple cider vinegar reduced their blood sugar levels by over 30 percent.

Now another benefit of apple cider vinegar is it promotes healthy weight loss. There was another study that was done where people ingested apple cider vinegar and they naturally reduced their caloric intake by 275 calories. This is pretty cool. Apple cider vinegar can also help reduce the symptoms of acid reflux. Another benefit of apple cider vinegar is that it actually reduces the negative LDL cholesterol and it increases the beneficial HDL cholesterol. So it actually can improve your cholesterol levels. Another benefit of apple cider vinegar is that it can improve your skin health. It has an antifungal nature. So if you’re suffering poison ivy and you rub a little bit on there it will neutralize some of the itchiness. Similarly, apple cider vinegar has also been known to help reduce allergy and cold symptoms.

Apple cider vinegar works as an antibacterial and household product! I’ve actually used it even as a house cleaning agent where I use equal amounts of apple cider vinegar with water. You can also use it as a deodorant. It works really well for that.

Overall apple cider vinegar is just very versatile in supporting our overall health and wellness. Now in terms of consuming it, I would start off with a small dosage – maybe one tablespoon in an eight-ounce glass of water and see how that lands in you. If it works then you can go up to two tablespoons. Now if you’re suffering blood sugar levels that are out of control I would check in with your doctor before you start a regimen of apple cider vinegar. But it is a robust agent for supporting us in terms of our wellness.

In terms of buying apple cider vinegar, I recommend the organic, raw, and unfiltered. So when you buy the bottle it’ll look a little murky – that’s ok.

OK well, that’s my message for today. I want to thank you so much for tuning in. And until next time take good care.
