How Astaxanthin Protects your Vision and Body

December 18, 2017 - Nutrition

Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam and I wanted to talk to you about Astaxanthin – a powerful carotenoid and antioxidant.

Astaxanthin is more potent than Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and CoQ10. It has characteristics that support the immune system and reduces the inflammatory response. Researchers have found that if you take astaxanthin, you are protecting yourself against cardiovascular disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s, and ADHD. Astaxanthin can also be used to help athletic performance.

But I want to talk to you about how it protects your eyes. Astaxanthin can help protect against age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cystoid macular edema, and central retinal artery and vein occlusion, and it helps reduce inflammation in the eye. So it protects you against conditions like conjunctivitis, iritis, uveitis, and keratitis.

So remember astaxanthin! It’s a very powerful antioxidant that protects you against oxidative stress. You can get it primarily in red seafood, such as sockeye salmon and red trout. If you are going to supplement with astaxanthin, I would recommend taking 6-12 mg per day.
