Photobiomodulation and Eye Disease

May 3, 2019 - Eye Health

Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam. I’m on my morning walk. I received a question on Instagram today: Does photobiomodulation therapy improve our eye health?

This is a form of therapy that uses lasers and infrared light as a way to promote wound healing and tissue regeneration. Researchers find this form of therapy to be mixed so that the results are not definitively positive. On a clinical level, I find that this type of therapy could be overpowering for many people because our eyes are very sensitive.

We carry a lot of stress, possibly chronic inflammation, and even oxidative stress. I would tend to do things like changing your diet, eating more antioxidants, and doing my eye exercises first before you enter this more invasive therapy.
