May 3, 2019 - Cataracts
Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam. I received the question today: what are the major risk factors that cause cataracts?
Well, I’m going to point you to a study that was published in 2012 in the Journal of Ophthalmology. The title of the study was called the Los Angeles Latino eye study. There were 5,900 participants over the age of 40, and they received a detailed questionnaire and also an assessment of their lens health.
The three major risk factors that cause cataracts according to the study were:
- High blood pressure
- Eating high glycemic index foods
- Smoking
This is why I recommend changing your lifestyle and improving your diet. As ways to reduce cataract formation and improve lens health.
