3 Herbs to Support Eye Health

March 12, 2019 - Nutrition

Hey folks, it’s Dr. Sam. I’m in Sedona on a great hike! I received a question today: What are the best herbs for your eyes?

Well, this is a great question because I love using plant medicine whenever I can. Pharmaceutical drugs treat symptoms, but they’re synthetically made and often take us further away from our healing mechanisms being able to heal the underlying causes of disease.

There are three herbs that I recommend for the eyes.

EyeBright

The first is called eyebright. Studies have shown that using eyebright tea may accelerate improvement of pink eye and overall eye circulation. You can get that either in a tincture, homeopathic eye drops, or a tea.

Gingko

The second herb I recommend is gingko. This herbal formula has been shown to actually improve optic nerve health, so it can be used as a preventative measure for glaucoma and boost overall retinal circulation, which is key to keeping the retina healthy.

Bilberry

The third herbal formula that I recommend is bilberry – this is a flavonoid. Bilberry has been shown in some animal studies to actually improve retinal circulation.

My advice would be if you can go to plants as a way to support your eye health, I would definitely do that.

That’s my message for today. Thank you so much for tuning in. And until next time, take care.
