From a Craniosacral standpoint, I have observed that the eyes are one of the most ignored parts of the body. When people complain about flashing lights, blurred vision, eye strain, double vision, etc, the reason for these symptoms is due to a disconnect from their eye tissue. From an embryonic standpoint, we know that the eyes, brain, spinal cord, and skin are the first to develop in-utero, and these are places where many of our adaptative patterns originate.

The question is why are we so disconnected from our eyes when they give us 70-90% of our information, carry 80% of our body tension, make up 2% of our body weight and use 25% of our food intake.

One reason why our eyes are letting us down has to do with our interaction with electronics. Computers, Smart Phones, and Tablets can be very damaging to the eyes because when you introduce these screens to our eyes, you are going from a 3-D world to a 2-D world, which creates a type of visual confinement. In addition, by focusing for any length of time at one distance sets up a closed system of movement which will solidify all the fluids in the eye tissue. The eyes become a dead zone. The lymph, cerebrospinal fluid, and blood that pass through the eyes lock down due to this closed system of movement when using the electronics.

Craniosacral therapy helps people regain the fluid nature in their eyes. In fact, I have measured the eye prescription of patients, given them a craniosacral session, and re-measured their eye prescription and their initial prescription is completely gone. When the compressions are removed and the fluid returns to its resonate state, our eyes function in a normal, flexible way.

My approach is to introduce in short increments new inputs into the eyes using color, an eye patch, prisms, and homeopathic powered lenses to help people become more aware of the warps created in their perception. I have observed that people release so much tension in the body from this process and many of their self-limiting patterns dissolve away in the eyes, brain, body, and energy fields. Also, whenever we stimulate the eyes, we are stimulating many of the acupuncture meridians especially the liver meridian, which rule the eyes. When I facilitate this process in a group, we are creating a unified field of consciousness that amplifies our healing response. As I hold the space for an adaptogenic response, I have observed major healings not only in their eyes but people’s expansion in their consciousness. I have found creating a more open, holistic space for healing the eyes is very helpful for people.

Since the eyes reflect such a holographic experience, when we release these self-limiting perceptions, the eye tissues receive nourishment and our consciousness opens up. Not only do I observe it in people’s attitude and behavior, but I have also measured the improvement using the Electrophotonic Imaging Camera. Moral of the story: don’t forget about the eyes, the more realized we can become with these tissues, the more we are able to connect to our birthright.

The eye is a separate, mechanical, biological process, it only ages and deteriorates

Our genes control our eye health

If you don’t wear your glasses, your eyes will get worse

There is no correlation between eyes and our body

It is the defective eyeball causing vision loss

Here are some truths about our eyes:

A vision problem in the eye reflects an energetic and systemic imbalance in the body

In Chinese medicine, the liver rules the eyes

There is a correlation between our emotions and vision

Sunlight is a very important food for the eyes and for our systemic and spiritual health

One can improve vision at ANY age

Our vision is an evolutionary process of development that begins in-utero. Our retina has developed from brain tissue, so whenever we work with the eyes we are working with an extension of the brain. Neuroscientists have proven, that we can improve the function of the brain at any age (neuroplasticity is the flexibility to develop new neural connections throughout life), and our eyes and brain are intimately related.

Our vision is not static but it is a dynamic system and should be treated as such. The more versatility we have in our vision, more versatility we have in our life.

It is important to question the current allopathic model. It creates a paradigm that we are victims and have no possibility for healing and wellness. Because of the current state of dysfunction in this system, many of us are witnessing a break down in the current approach to health. Join me in the new paradigm that says we have the innate ability for healing, whether it is for eyes or for our entire wellness.

In 2011, I received many calls and e-mails from people who had just been to an eye doctor and received the diagnosis: “you have cataracts, glaucoma, or macular degeneration.” Usually the diagnosis is followed by the treatment plan of let’s do a surgical procedure or even worse, they may report that there is nothing that can be done to save your vision.

Being in the eye care field for over 25 years, I have developed and researched many proven methods to reverse these and other vision conditions. In general, the eyes collect a great deal of free radicals in the tissues. Without proper lymphatic circulation, many eye tissues begin to age faster when the detoxification pathways are not working efficiently. Although, there is no cookbook approach, several research studies point to the fact that using highly absorbable supplements (without the toxic fillers found in most vitamins) can be beneficial in reversing many eye conditions.

Combining vision therapy to improve the functional skill of our eyes-brain-body with some type of natural remedy protocol can be very effective in improving one’s vision.

One of my favorite protocols to help improve eye health is the application of pure medicinal essences around the eyes. The specific essences I have found helpful are Frankincense, Sweet Fennel, Carrot Seed, and Saffron. I recommend applying 1 drop of each essence in a layering fashion 2-3 inches around the eyes, 3 times a day for a minimum of a week. In studies I have done using the Electrophotonic Imaging Camera, I have measured remarkable changes in many deteriorating eye diseases as well as improvement in the energy fields using this protocol. Many times, I have seen energy stagnation in the liver, gallbladder, stomach meridians which are causing tissue changes in the eyes. Using a specific protocol tailor-made for each individual can help a great deal.

Another protocol for specifically reversing cataracts is using two different sets of natural eye drops to dissolve early cataract formation. The first eye drop is called Can-C. It has N-Acetyl Carnosine which is a free-radical scavenger and very active against lipid peroxidation in the different parts of the lens of the eye. The second eye drop is called Cineraria. This eye drop is homeopathic and is a major lymph support for the eyes. The lens of the eye has no direct blood vessels bathing it, so the strategy is to help detox the free radicals and improve the lens circulation in the eye tissue using the Cineraria. When used together, the Can-C and Cinneria eye drops show a 90 percent success rate if used over a 3 month period. I have seen them work wonders with people.

Another important component for the tissue of the eyes is Vitamin C and bioflavonoids. The lens of the eye needs one of the highest amounts of Vitamin C in the body. I recommend 1000mg per day for cataract prevention. Bottom-line, you don’t have to live out the doctor’s diagnosis.

The November, 2011 Hawaii Dolphin Wellness & Vision Retreat was an “extraordinary” experience for all!

Each morning, we started the day at 6 AM as one of the participants, Elaine Doll, an Ayurvedic practitioner and Yoga teacher led us in a wonderful class. I believe that our Yoga practice was very helpful in getting us ready for the day’s activities. At 7:10 AM each morning, we stood in line to get our energy fields and chakras measured with the Electrophotonic Imaging Camera (EPC), a Russian, digital-Kirlian technique that would help me chart our daily energy patterns before and after each dolphin swim.

After breakfast each day, we headed to the marina where we had an opening circle before we got on the boat. What a wonderful week with the dolphins! Captain Jim and Allison and dolphin pod leaders helped us release our fears so we were able to connect to these amazing beings. Each day before each swim, I offered the group a Medicinal Essence to open our hearts to the dolphins. We used Pine Ocean Maritime, Violet, and Sandalwood, and Carnation to assist us. On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of meeting the Pelagic Rays, who moved so elegantly as we swam with them in a deeper part of the ocean. By Thursday, our group had reached a level of coherence as the dolphins continued to swim with us throughout the entire day. At this point, they were swirling, spinning, and twirling beneath us in the deep ocean and then they would slowly come to the surface and give us eye contact as they took a breath and continued swimming with us. By Friday, they were completely surrounding the boat during our entire swim when we finally had to say goodbye as we headed back to the marina.
Friday night was special because people shared how much they loved the week, all the wonderful things they learned, and what they would take home to their friends and family. Friday night is always my favorite part of the week’s festivities.

He shared with us many insights into the workings of natural medicines and being a messenger for the Plants and Trees. I learned some deep truths from him.

* Have a secret ritual for inviting Spirit into your life
* As you take people in, they are also taking you in
* Authenticity is trusting yourself
* Love creates beauty
* Change your colors and don’t be monochromatic
* Our heartbeat is a metronome and with every beat we can make a change
* Signs are everywhere…observe them, believe them, and let them guide you.
* We need to vary what we do; what works in one situation may not be what is needed in another. Pause. Wait. Commune with Spirit and let Spirit work through you. Let Spirit lead.

We are living in interesting times. As we navigate these changes both individually and collectively, Uqualla’s teachings can be very helpful.

While I was attending The Gesell Institute to study how to treat children with learning difficulties, we invited John Streff, OD, an expert in the area of child development and vision therapy to give us a lecture on his wonderful approach.

During his presentation, he did the most amazing demonstration for us. He called up one of my classmates, and he took out this device called a Retinoscope and began shining it in my classmate’s eyes to observe them. Dr. Streff instructed this man to imagine that he was playing tennis and then Dr. Streff proceeded to tell my classmate every single time he hit the ball in this imaginary game. After the third time my classmate started laughing, and asked Dr. Streff what it is he was doing. Dr. Streff said that he was just watching my friend’s eyes.

Then Dr. Streff said he wanted to do this demonstration again. This time, as the classmate imagined his tennis game, Dr. Streff again watched his eyes using the Retinoscope. Streff predicted every time the man hit an imaginary forehand, backhand, or lob. Dr. Streff’s predictions were so precise, we were all speechless. It was a profound demonstration for our class.

I realized from this demonstration that light not only enters the eye but it also exits the eye. It is how the light exits our eye that reflects our creativity and self-expression. Next time you have the chance, look at an infant playing and you will see the glimmer in his eyes.

Another aspect I realized back then was that, in the vision care field, we are led to believe that the eye is meant “to look” at something. But the eye looks at nothing until the light grabs it. The eye is not looking for the light, but the light is actually looking for the eye. That is why we say “it caught my eye.” The “it” causes the eye to reflexively move toward the light, then the body follows to re-orient itself and align with the eye, and we begin to be guided along our journey in life.

The light creates a oneness between the eyes and body, and we experience a clarity. But I am not talking about an optical clarity, rather the clarity is an insight where we may say: “I see”! The moral of the story is that instead of looking at life, what if life is looking for us! When life looks at us, our awareness helps us be in the flow, and we can experience effortlessness.

I have just completed a new 2011 update of my book Creating Your Personal Vision: A Mind-Body Guide For Better Eyesight, now available in electronic form.

Please join me for one of my upcoming workshops.

On June 28, 2011, I arrived in Saint Petersburg, Russia, to attend Professor Konstantin Korotkov’s 15th annual “Science, Information, and Spirit Conference.” This international gathering brings the top scientists, doctors, researchers, and healers together to share new ideas in the overlap of science research and spirituality.

Dr. Korotkov and his team at Kirlionics Technical Institute (KTI) have developed the Electrophotonic Imaging Camera (EPC): a digital, Kirlian-like system that measures a person’s energy field in real-time and converts the data using proprietary software into detailed pictures and numerical data in a science-based format.

Dr. Korotkov is committed to raising the level of human consciousness through his technology in the fields of medicine, sport, business, the environment, and water research. His work makes use of the systems of Ayurvedic Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine to test the validity of holistic therapies using a variety of different disciplines. The participants at the conference presented papers that test these therapies both in a research and clinical setting.

I shared a research paper that reported on the use of the EPC to measure changes to human energy fields before and after a series of swims with spinner dolphins at my 2010 Wellness Retreat held in Kona, Hawaii. My preliminary findings showed a strong increase in human energy field measurements between the first and last day of the retreat. The data also showed that the energy fields exhibited less entropy (disorganization) and more coherence on the final day.

One of the anomalies of the data was that participants’ energy fields showed more entropy immediately after the daily swims. Dr. Korotkov recommended that, in the future, I take multiple readings after each daily swim to calculate the changes in entropy as each person integrates the dolphin swim experience.

In addition, the affiliated software program displaying chakras showed that the participants measured better alignment in the chakras between the first and last day of the retreat.

For the 2011 dolphin swim retreat (Oct. 30 – Nov. 5), I have invited my colleague Dr. Mary Milroy, an acupuncturist and colorpuncturist, to help take our daily measurements using the Electrophotonic Imaging Camera. Mary has extensive experience with the camera. She is developing a new software application that will measure energy fields using both the hands and feet photon emissions instead of the fingertips only. (This system was developed by Peter Mandel from Germany.) I am very excited to have her expertise during our retreat.

As for the people of Saint Petersburg, they are awesome!! We saw some amazing sights. Our guide Emma showed us depths of this city steeped in history and culture. Special thanks goes to my wife Charly, who also made the trip great for me.

I want to thank Dr. Korotkov, Elena Velichko, and their colleagues at KTI for putting together a wonderful conference and post-conference training. I learned a great deal at the post-conference training on advanced interpretation of energy fields and will be sharing my knowledge in my upcoming seminars and retreats.

During a recent radio interview, the host asked me to briefly define Behavioral Optometry. My response was: “Behavioral Optometry is a wonderful, drug-free approach that treats the causative factors of vision problems and not just symptoms. Vision therapy helps the eyes, brain, and body communicate in a more integrated fashion. This eye-brain connection is possible, because the retina is the only tissue in the body that originates from the brain during the embryonic stage of development. When we work with vision, we are really improving brain function.”

Many callers to the show asked about the relationship between vision problems and the autism to A.D.D. spectrum of disorders. One parent, whose son had undergone strabismus surgery (eye muscle surgery to fix a crossed eye) and been also diagnosed with ADHD, reported that she had been thrilled to discover vision therapy to help her child learn to use the two eyes together.

Strabismus surgery had offered a somewhat cosmetic cure, but it was vision therapy that created a functional cure. After the surgery, she was told her son had “stereo blindness.” With vision therapy, his attention was much improved and his impulsivity was reduced about 90%. His stereo blindness was gone, and he was using both of his eyes together.

Next month, at the International Society for the Study of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine (ISSSEEM) Conference in Colorado, the theme is “Light, Vision and Consciousness.” One question I am asked often is whether light is good for the eyes. Since the retina is like a satellite dish and is comprised of photoreceptors whose function is to capture the light, I would answer, “Yes!” And, different colors can improve the retinal function. Generally, red acts as a stimulant, green is balancing, and blue is relaxing. Different protocols are used to help improve vision based on the problems that are presented. Here is a bit of homework for you: Next time you are aware of yourself “seeing,” let the light catch your eye and notice how effortless that feels.

Collectively, I believe, we are in a planetary process that says our individual health is linked to the global health of the Earth. But a split exists between our masculine and feminine energies, and the conflict is strong between the right and left sides of our brain. In the current mix of life, in my opinion, we have had too much of the left brain (uninformed masculine energy) and not enough of the right brain (divine feminine). This has led to the state we are in as a human species.

Using subtle energies and energy medicine is a way to heal this split. Refining our energy builds the link between mind and body/soul and spirit. Where the mind goes, the energy (chi) follows.

The eyes are a direct connection to the mind-body, and the retina is a satellite dish that captures light through its 137 million photoreceptors. When the mind chatters, the eyes don’t see as clearly. The quieter our mind, the more available we are to take light “in” and the more we radiate light. This becomes our energetic signature for health, wellness, and self-expression.

I foresee future holistic health practitioners being able to scan a person’s biofield and perform electrodynamic tune ups to create a higher self alignment and biophotonic balancing. People will become more aligned with geo-cosmic fields like the Earth’s Schumann resonance.

The Schumann resonance is a very slow pulse in the Earth’s vibration that is a result of the balance between magnetism and electricity. This pulse exists in the background, and it has been compared to a tuning fork of sorts for all species. It organically coordinates many of the biological rhythms, brain waves and endocrine functions of our life energy.

When we are in a similar vibration as the Schumann resonance, we are in tune with nature. One practice I use to reconnect to the Schumann resonance is to watch the sunset and observe the rainbow of colors as the light changes. During the practice, breathe the colors in, either with the eyes open or closed, and feel the colors in your body. These colors are nutrients that balance our fluid system, endocrine system and nervous system. The eyes are the most direct way for us to receive this nourishment.

News: I am in the final stages of revising Creating Your Personal Vision: A Mind-Body Guide for Better Eyesight. It will be available for sale by the end of June.

The new edition includes a section on using tools of quantum mechanics to look at data from the body’s own photons and electrons as a method to monitor wellness. It discusses the importance of measuring a person’s biofield using a technology called Electrophotonic Imaging.

The Science of Ayurveda says that the diet influences the mind. Since ninety percent of how we see originates in the mind, when our mind chatters, we cannot see clearly.

The eyes and brain make up 2% of the body weight and use 25% of the food intake. Since the liver is the major organ that affects how we see, it is not surprising that our nutrition and biochemistry strongly affect our vision. There are many nutritional components that support how we see.

Below is a brief list of certain vitamins and minerals that affect different tissues of the eye.

Zinc, Vitamin A, Cysteine, Lutein and Taurine are important for a healthy retina. The retina is comprised of photoreceptors which help us receive light.

Vitamin C, E, and Vitamin B2 are important for a healthy lens. The lens is important in our ability to transmit the light through the eyes. The lens also helps us focus at different distances. In early stages of cataracts, specific homeopathic eye drops can dissolve cataracts.

Omega 3, 6, 9 fish oil is important for a healthy cornea and proper tear production. The cornea is the outer window of the eye and our first visual contact with the world. Poor tear production can be caused by not having enough oils in our body or by suffering from adrenal burnout.

Chromium is important for a healthy vitreous (the gel-like part of the eye). Chromium regulates our simple carbohydrate metabolism. Low chromium can contribute to an increase in nearsightedness.

Magnesium is important for healthy eye muscles which helps the aqueous humor regulate the fluid flow from the inner part of the eye.

Essential oils are also very effective in supporting our vision. Each essence has many attributes for healing the body. If you would like more information on essential oils, please contact me.
